Discover the Ellero Valley in winter: snowshoeing, skiing and sledding
What promises more adventure, fascination and romance than a dog sled ride along a snowy slope in the middle of an untouched valley… like in Jack London’s times? You can experience just this in the Ellero Valley. To organize your unforgettable tour, contact the “Antiche Macine” farm in Chiusa di Pesio (Fabrizio- Tel. 340 408 75 65). For skiers, there is a small ski slope equipped with a Tapis Roulant in Rastello. There, you can go downhill skiing on your own or take lessons from certified ski instructors. For more information contact the “La Canunia” riding stable (Tel. 339 732 78 77), which also organizes snowshoe tours and much more during the winter. Or, call the “Valle Ellero Sci Club” (Tel. 347 051 99 61 or email: sciclubvalleellero@gmail.com) to gain access to the Ellero Valley’s two cross-country ski trails. The first trail is located in the town of Roccaforte. It is an easy, 12 km trail suitable for families and beginners. The second is a more technical, 5km trail, located in the nearby town of Rastello.
Free fishing and no-kill zone
In the Ellero mountain stream, there are fishing spots along the old salt paths that lead to the Mondovì mountain hut (Refugio Mondovì), as well as a popular no-kill fishing area. For more information, contact the Alta Valle Ellero fishing group (Tel. 338 192 94 84).
A gem for bouldering enthusiasts
The Valle Ellero is also a popular destination for climbers, where you can find numerous boulders for safe, free climbing. In fact, the small town of Roccaforte’s Youth Council organizes a meeting every year dedicated to just this- bouldering. Fans of this sport can feel free to call them to find out the best places to go to let off some steam and put your skills to the test! (Tel. 334 901 49 51)
